The idea behind this is excellent; however, the reality is not quite up to that accolade. My whippet very quickly learned to a degree how the scratch pad operates, although he needs to improve his technique, which will hopefully come with more practice. When it comes to achieving its aim of grinding down his claws, it is not so good, as he finds ways of operating it without sliding his claws over the abrasive pads. But at least it keeps him occupied. Setting it up can be fiddly, and some parts are difficult to remove and replace. The slots in the tumblers that release the rewards do not reliably stay where set, making it difficult to get the release rate to your liking. The tumblers have the habit of releasing some treats into the inner workings, which can be an impairment. As something to keep my dog occupied, this is very good, but as far as filing dow his claws, so far it has had little impact

It's not very easy to use, one of the sides does not even shut all the way when we opened the box. It is large, I'd say good for bigger dogs, not great for our small ones. Seems like light plastic, easily breakable. It just doesn't work that well Update We decided to give it a second try with our dogs, and they are still just too small for this. We did fix the issue with the pads not lining up and the steps not working very well. But my dogs just are not the right size for this item. I was really hopeful because they enjoy puzzles and toys, and it would have been nice to get their front nails trimmed at the same time. But they just do not weigh enough to use it. My dogs are 12 and 13 lbs, maltipoo and chiweenie. They just do not have the strength to move it. I would definitely say it would be better for a larger breed.

My puppy is scared to death of it, but that's not the products fault, so I'm judging it on its performance and not how my furbaby reacted to it. First off, it resembles a tiny version of a treadmill - in that it has two "walking' strips (which have a low grade sandpaper (enough to help with your furbabies nails, but not enough to hurt them.) As your pup pulls on the straps (you'll see what im talking about in the pics). Treats/small dry dog food falls out into the treat tray. Once your pup figures out how to do it, it's supposed to keep them entertained and also give themselves a treat. It makes a little noise, so my pup was 'outta there' but it actually does work well. It came with clear instructions and extra sandpaper strips. It's easy to clean, fill and has the invisible hooks to keep it in place.
